CAMCORDER NEWBIE NEEDS HELP miniDV>DV

just received sony HCR19 for Xmas, but when using firewire and editing software (Cyberlink Power Producer), the DVD playback on DVD player is having mixed results depending on what compression, format etc I use.

to save me trawling and testing the endless permutations of MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DVD, VCD etc, does anyone have any suggestions on what set up will be give optimum results????

Hi,

Can you give us all some more information please about what kind of mixed results you are having??! What settings are you using already, what type of discs are you using -+ R/RW ??

Are you capturing using MPEG 2 or dv.avi first then rendering?

A little more information will mean more people will probably reply for you !!

Cheers for now

thanx for the guiding hand!
have tried mpeg 2 at optimum transfer rate, but viewing back on DVD player the images are quite pixcelated, and anyone moving wearing bold colours leaves a 'streak'across the image. conversely, transferring to vcd or by mpeg 1 gives a poor picture quality no better than a VHS tape. have tried a few other options in between, and all to DVD +RW. am transferring to PC via firewire

sorry for being a bit vague but i am new to this game!
all suggestions welcome
cheers
G

Not all software is equal when it comes to creating a DVD. You may find that Power Producer is just not very good - but I've not used it so can't say if this is the case. I've been useing Ulead DVD Movie Factory for the past couple of years and it is very easy to use and give good results. It can be bought for around £30 and can be downloaded for a free 30 day trial from Here. I suggest you give it a try and see if it gives better results than you get with PP.

Mark.
