Do I need a clean!

Hi,
I have a Sony DCR TRV14 camcorder which has been great,but just recently I get Horizontal lines across the picture and big yellow arrow comes up on the lcd screen.Sometimes it says I should use a tape head cleaner.Is this the start of something sinister or just a bit of maintenance?Thanks.

If the camcorder is actually requesting you to use a head cleaning tape then that is what you should do. I doubt it is the start of any problems though, just that the heads need cleaning. Get yourself a good miniDV head cleaning tape and follow the instructions closely and only use it when the cam requests it as they are abrasive and will wear out the heads if used too often.
