VCR to computer via camcorder problem

I'm (like the previous poster) trying to connect my old VCR to my computer via my camcorder. I think I'm doing things right now after some mistakes but it does not work...

I have an old VCR (1989) with one scart output only. There are no other outputs except the RF (antenna) output.
I connect my scart-adapter (exacly the one MarkE19 showed in MJWs similar thread) to my VCR having three (yellow/red/white) RCA cables connected to it. I have plugged the corresponding cables into my CCR (Sony DCR-TR7000E).

My CCR has not analog-in enabled by default so I have enabled it using the L-remote software. I have verified the hex-values. I have also enabled DV-IN but now disabled it because analog-in should have priority. I start the VCR but nothing shows in the viewfinder.

The iLink-connection between my CCR and my computer works fine. I can import from the camcorder or control it from the computer.

So the problem must be between the VCR and the CCR.

Any ideas are welcome!

Sounds like you need one of those Scart adapters with the in/out switch on it, at the moment you only have "in" on the vhs scart.

I recently bought one at Tesco, first item here --> http://www.tesco.com/extra/search.as...hall&Nty=1&N=0

But as I wrote that's exactly the adapter I have (see the parenthesis).

Have you tried switching your ccr to 'player' mode, this seems to work for me (sony TRV-335e with firmware u/grade)- you don't mention what capture software you are using, also DV in should be enabled as you are asking your ccr's hardware compressor to do the analog to digi convertion, with firewire out connected to your pc firewire card the signal from your vcr to the pc is simply passed thro' the ccr (which does the conversion) the resultant file will depend on your capture software but is usually pure 'avi' (audio/video interleave- expect 2 to 3 megabytes per sec) this is a excellent way to convert old vhs content to dvd etc (with the right software) as a ccr's hardware digitizer is pretty powerful!. As far as connection from vcr to ccr is concerned I use left/right phono (rca) to minijack on ccr for audio and s-video for picture, if you only have 'scart' this could be your problem- not all scart leads have all pins connected.

hope all this is of some help!- good luck!.

If useing a VHS VCR to play the tapes then you can't use an S-Video lead on the scart adapter as no VHS VCR's output S-Video, only SVHS VCR's do. Stick to the composite video lead (yellow phono) as this is your only option with VHS.

OK, lets go through some of the basic setup steps to make sure everything is as it should be.
Connect VCR to camcorder (try the switch on the adapter in both positions make sure it is the right way!)
Connect cam to PC via firewire
Put cam into play/VCR mode
Start the capture software
In the software make sure you disable device control otherwise the software will try to play a tape in the cam.
Make sure there is no tape in cam, some cams require the tape door to be open for passthrough.

Hopefully you have just missed one of the above steps and this will get you up & running.

Good luck,
Mark.
