Question Transferring VHS to DVD using PC

I have some old VHS tapes which I need to transfer to DVD but I've been having some problems. I think I have all the right equipment, here goes :

Video source - an old Panasonic NV-SJ206 VCR
It only has a SCART in/out so I've bought a little SCART adapter that has left/right audio out as well as S-video and composite video out
PC - The graphics card is a Radeon X800 XT Platinum edition which has video in / out and an adapter that plugs into it allowing you connect either S-video or composite video input.
Software - I've tried three bits of software : Windows Movie Maker, Virtual VCR and Virtual Dub.
The problem is I cannot get a video signal to appear in the preview window and therefore cannot record any footage. I suspected it may have been because the VCR output a PAL signal, so I flicked a DIP switch on the graphics card to change it from NTSC to PAL but still no joy.
Can anyone please help ?

Scart plugs are directional. The adapter you have may be designed to only output the signal through the scart rather than the phono/S-Video sockets. What you probably need to do is get a switchable adapter so the signal can go in either direction - something like This. Also make sure you use the composite (phono video) connection rather than the S-Video if the VCR is VHS or you will only get a black & white picture. The S-Video connection will only work with an SVHS VCR.

Mark.

Does your camcorder allow analog input signals?
If not by default - have you enabled that function?
Not all old camcorders allow analog input signals but they can normally be enabled.

Hi thanks for the replies. There's no camcorder involved just an old VCR, some VHS tapes and my PC. The scart adapter is switchable for input/output and I set it to output from the VCR
