Help!! Why do I need DV/AV in??

Hi

So I finally am buying a Camcorder. The Panasonic GS150 looks good and I am told that it will work OK in lo light conditions such as the school christmas plays etc. However my local shop says that it is also available cheaper in a version without AV/DV in, the GS140. This is 100Euros cheaper.

I am going to download the raw DV tape content to my HDD (300G) , edit with Pinnacle studio 10 and then burn onto DVD. So why do I really need the AV / DV in??

Any help in explaining the reality would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Mark

DVD discs are easily damaged and therefore with DV-in you can copy the edited footage back to the cam for archiving. Keeping it for long term on the PC is not a good idea due to the large size of the uncompressed AVI files, but at under £3 for a DV tape IMO it is a lot better to keep the footage on a tape.

AV-in is very handy as it allows you to connect external analogue devices to the cam such as an old analogue cam to then get it onto a PC for editing in very good quality. You can also use a bullet cam so the camcorder can be kept safe in a bag but still allow you to record.
