Will a "pal" computer accept an ntsc video signal from a minidv camcorder?

Will a "pal" computer accept an ntsc video signal from a minidv camcorder?

As the title says really. My friend took some footage on his camcorder and saved in in ntsc.. Will i be able to edit on my uk pc? Someone told him he wouldnt be able to but i cant see why not

Um - "he saved it as NTSC" ?? - or he used an NTSC camera - only one maybe two cameras give you a choice and I believe you have to set them before you start. Any way yes you will be able to edit it on your PC because your computer is neither PAL or NTSC, you can import either to a computer and edit it. The problem will be when you burn a DVD and then try to watch it on a TV - Some systems in the UK may play it (at reduced quality) - some will only play it in black and white - some won't play it at all

is there a way of converting it from ntsc to pal?

Canopus ProCoder Express or Adobe Premiere Elements - both costing around £50 are the cheapest options I think.

If you don't convert the NTSC footage there is no way you can record the footage to a PAL VCR. Even if the VCR is able to play NTSC video it wont be able to record it - unless you have a very expensive multistandards VCR that is. Therefore a DVD (or VCD) will be your only output option.
