Pinnacle MovieBox USB and Pinnacle Studio AV/DV Deluxe

Hi, I'd like to edit the footage on my analogue video camera and I was informed a product called Pinnacle Studio MovieBox USB could do that. However there is also a product from Pinnacle called 'Pinnacle Studio AV/DV Deluxe v9 which I was told could record my PS2 gameplay footage, which I'd like to do. What is the difference between the two? Would Pinnacle Studio AV/DV Deluxe v9 work just as good as the MovieBox version for editing my analogue camcorder footage? I don't want to have to buy both.

The Pinnacle Studio AV/DV Deluxe v9 is going to be a far better option as it uses dedicated hardware to capture the analogue (and digital) video. USB is not good enough to give full quality capture, and often causes lip sync errors and therefore people often comment on poor quality. Therefore IMO you should avoid USB for video capture if the final PQ is important to you.
If the £175 cost of Pinnacle Studio AV/DV Deluxe v9 is too much then there is a slightly cheaper option with the Pinnacle Studio AV/DV v9, which is basically the same but without the breakout box. Either version also has the benefit of offering connection for a digital camcorder to the PC for editing without loosing quality with analogue conversion.

Mark.

There is also a product called Moviebox DV which is similar to the moviebox USB but connects to the PC by firewire. It retains all the functions of the USB but has the advantage of firewire connectivity which is perfect for videocapture. The moviebox is a lot more versatile than the Pci( av/dv) card. It costs a little bit more and requires an external power supply but doesnt involve opening up your pc and can be used for a laptop or other PC as well (if needed).
USB2 theoretically has greater data thru put than firewire and it is used in Liquid Editions Pro breakout box (BOB) with good effect BUT in general , in practice , usb is inferior to firewire and certainly to a direct pci connection as you would have with AV/DV card. The issue with usb is that firewire has a better sustained data transfer which video capture thrives on
There are several older threads on USB vs Firewire. If you have a choice stick with firewire, and if you can find it the MOVIEBOX DV is a nicer piece of kit than the PCI card.
