Can a Canon DV camcorder play other brand's DV tapes?

Hi

Quick question.....could I put someone else's DV tape (say from a Panasonic or Sony) into my Canon DV camcoder and play the tape?

I want to record it to a standalone DVD recorder via firwewire....

Many thanks!

Yes it will play.

It is probably best though to always use the same brand of tapes in your cam (it doesn't have to be the same brand as the cam though), because different tape brands use different manufacturing processes. Some use wet tapes, some dry & mixing can have an effect on head clogging/wear.
