Canon MV5i has died - worth repairing?

Hi folks,

My three year old Canon MV5i miniDV camcorder has developed a strange fault whereby it seems unable to lock onto the correct white balance or exposure when in automatic mode. Even when I switch to manual settings it seems unable to gain a correct setting - the image just gets muddy and the white balance fails to lock.

Does anyone have any idea if this is a common or serious problem, and is it worth forking out for a repair? I've asked in one place and they want £60 just to give me an estimate! I'm wondering if it's time just to look for a new camcorder...?

Any advice much appreciated.

Any ccd funny business at all on this model of camera and it could be that you have the mv600 fault (read the M600 forum, there is a recent link to canons site, they are fixing your model of cam free of charge if the ccd fails, your symptoms are consistent)
