Sony connection to Final Cut Pro 5

Folks, is is possible to connect my Sony HC42E to final cut pro 5 using a USB cable?

I've tried and tried but to no success.

I have such a bad feeling this is the most stupidest question to ask!

PS Also, can I connect to i-movie using the usb connector? Only reason I ask is that I also don't seem to have any luck connecting to this software either!

The reliable way to transfer full res video from DV camera to PC is through firewire.

USB is best only used for transfer for of stills or lower res webcam use.
