New camcorder, MiniDV and semi big budget

Hey, well after a long time of wanting the CCD-VX3 I realized I could do better. So here is my question, I need a camcorder, hopfully under $500, it has to be MiniDV because I need the quality, now 3CCD is optional, but hey, if they got it! The big requirement here is that is has to look somewhat like a professional camera, and by that I mean extended lens outside of the camera body, upgrade compatible (lens shade), you know, basically the look that the higher cameras like a Gl2 may have, along those lines. Does anyone know of such a camera?
