Help needed in erasing Mini-DV tapes on Sony DCR-PC103E

Can anyone help? The instructions for my Sony DCR-PC103E are very clear on how to erase tapes by using Player-FN-PAGE1-Menu-Erase All-EXEC. Unfortunately the Erase All function isn't highlighted when I go into the Menu and doesn't give that option, so I can't click on it. Am I doing something wrong?

IMO if you are going to reuse your DV tapes (and at only £3 to buy why bother!) then you should just rewind them and record over the existing footage. Erasing a tape in the camcorder will put extra wear & tear on the DV heads which will result in a shorter life of the camcorder. If you really want to wipe them then just use a strong magnetic field to degauze them.

Mark.

Some tapes have an integrated memory chip which can be used to store additional information about the contents of the tape. The instructions refer to erasing data from this chip, not from the tape itself.
