Transfer from DV camcorder - options

HI just received my new Canon MVX35i. Very happy so far - doesn't count for much as I've just looked at it/started experimenting!

I'm looking at the options for transfer from my mini-DV tape to PC/DVD. I have a Panasonic DVD recorder which has a firewire input and was thinking of buying a firewire cable and simply streaming the DV tape onto a DVD. I can then easily use the DVD in my PC for editing etc. Am I going to be losing quality if I choose this route compared to using a firewire card in my PC and recording to the hard disc?

Thanks
Adam

Why go to all the trouble of getting the footage onto a DVD and then editing it on a PC. IMO you would be better off going directly onto the PC from the camcorder and editing.
If you edit the highly compressed video from a DVD disc you can easily run into problems such as loss of quality &/or inaccurate edit points. Also the compression can be controlled a lot more on a PC to give better final results.

The only down side is the time it will take to convert from AVI video to DVD complient MPEG-2 compressed files, but with a fairly modern PC this should not be too long.

Mark.
