High Definition Camcorder Advice Sougt

Can anyone summarise what is available targeted more at the consumer end than professional?

Thanks

The Sony HDR-HC1 is due out very soon costing around £1'400.
It's HDV, 16:9 & 4:3 (SD only) compatible.

Handycam size, some manual control but not a full range.
Sony are sending me one for a review I'm writing. Will be able to tell you more then.
It uses CMOS rather than CCD imagers, which is a brave departure from exsisting established proven technology, and this helps keep the cost so 'cheap'.

A second hand JVC HD1 might be worth looking at if you don't mind 720p rather than 1080i & single chip

Sony haven't sent me one yet, they are going to send me the dvcam version to look at instead, I've only had a cursory look at the cam in jessops and it seems to be pretty good, fairly compact, most manual operations that you could want (if you want to progress) didn't have the chance to see the footage on a full size screen, either in SD or HD. It's getting good reviews though.
