dv out socket damaged, will usb out be as good?

I have a sony trv950e, a great camcorder. The dv in/out socket has been damaged by use of the wrong cable. However it does have usb out. Will this give me as good quality as firewire?

NO!

Do a search on the forum and you will see loads of threads asking if USB can be used for transfer of video to a PC. The answer is a 100% definate no as USB can not maintain a constant high transfer rate. Therefore USB1.1/2.0 will only transfer still images or webcam type quality video.

Time for an expensive reapir I think

Just had it repaired

Of course you were right and it was expensive, £129. Now working fine. Moral-don't lend your stuff.

Ouch!!! I bet that hurt!

Oh well, at least you can be happy that you now have a fully working, very good camcorder. Just think how painful that repair would have been if it was a £300 camcorder.
