JVC Camcorder problem HELP!

I bought a JVC GRD31EK digital camcorder less than 2 years ago. My main purpose was to use in on holiday. I have used it twice since and the other day when I went to use it the screen was black.
There is nothing from the LCD screen or viewfinder.
The camcorder can still play movies and they can be viewed through the LCD screen.
I have noticed by searching on the web that there are people with similar problems.

I have emailed JVC Customer Service but never received a reply.

Can anyone help and give me some advice.
Do I get it fixed as it is obviously out of guarantee and will the problem come back. Or is there anything I can do through JVC.
Does anyone know how much it may cost to fix or am I looking at buying a new one from a different manufacturer.
