3 ccd MiniDV Camcorder - any recommendations?

Hi!

Am an amateur filmmaker and keen to make short documentaries.

I would like to buy a 3CCD miniDV Camcorder PAL - with auto and Manual Controls - specially manual sound controls.

My film concepts involve interviews, and would therefore like to invest in a microphone as well.

Though an amateur, would not like to compromise on quality. Would not like my films to be rejected at film festivals on technical grounds.

My budget however is very modest - around $1000. Am not looking for the professional models like Sony PD170.

I have been going thru the various reviews on the net but have only ended up more confused. Suggestions, recommendations would be welcome.
