Sony DCR HC30E Brand New - Problem Need Help

1. battery does not get charged once the AC adaptor is connected to power
(the "Chg" LED does not glow in Off mode.)
(tried swapping with new batteries and Adaptors)

2. The Rec (On/off) switch does not work , it automatically shifts to your memory card option when u try to record on tape ..

having a real nightmare with this SONY ......Pls help if im missing out some settings ...

if its brand new would you not be better taking it back to the store where you bought it for a replacement ?

I live in India , bought the cam in Singapore , not sure whether to take it to the Sony Service centre in India ..Am i going wrong in some settings ..
