Yep, I've been giving out this advise on this forum for the past few years. Do a search for 'DMA' and you'll see my name popping up quite a bit.
But unfortunately there is a lot more to getting a clean capture from a camcorder, but it is a lot easier than it was only about 3 to 4 years ago with cheap, generic OHCI capture & software cards able to do what back then required dedicated hardware and a lot of money.
The 'DMA' search should bring up lots of additional advise to help prevent dropped frames etc during capture & editing.
