DCR-IP7 problem

I have had my DCR-IP7 for about 15 months, no problem at all. I am not very technical and I wanted something small just for family use.
Took it on holiday last week, took it out to use it and when I look though the viwfinder I get vertical lines of what I am looking at. Not very descriptive I know, but the image is sort of pixalated but in lines. You can make out the colours of what you are looking at.

Playback is fine. I haven't dropped it ar damaged it in anyway since I used it last. the only thing is that it went through the x-ray machine at the airport but can't see how that could have effected it.

Has anyone else had this problem or do I need to return it to Sony?

Thanks

Jon
