JVC GR-D93 how to transfer?

Hello all,

I did some video taping last night with a friends camera and I am trying to get the video off it. I do not have his cables. I am using a mini usb cable and I have gotten the drivers. How can I get the video off the camera? Do I have to do a realtime transfer? Should I get software from JVC? Any help would be great!

Unfortunately the usb will only allow you access to the memory card. When connected, the PC should see the card as a removable drive. (This is where the stills are stored, just like a digital camera)

For video transfer you'll need a firewire connection, so that's a firewire cable and a firewire card in your PC.

Scotty306 is correct, the only way to get full quality video onto your PC is via firewire (aka iLink, ieee1394 or DV port). Have a look in 'Device Manager' on your PC to see if you already have a firewire port installed on the Mother board. It will be listed as 'ieee1394 controller'.

Capture to a PC is always done in real time from a DV camcorder (or any tape based cam) as the tape still needs to be read through, and this is only done a 1x speed.

Nope! I would say JVC software is not what you want, but I may be wrong!
If you have Windows XP then you already have great software to capture & edit your footage. Just look on the PC for Movie Maker. A great resource for everything Movie Maker can be found at www.papajohn.org
If you are not running XP then take a look at the software from Ulead, Sony, Pinnacle etc as they all do very good packages for not too much money. They also offer a 30 day trial of the software.

Mark.
