Panasonic Gs50 - No Picture

When I start recording, the word 'record' appears but the counter on top of the screen stays at 0:00:00. It use to start advancing. When I switch the camera to VCR in order to watch what I have just recorded, the LCD screen stays blank. Can anyone help please ?

Can you replay a previously recorded tape in the camcorder?
Have you tried putting a cleaning cassette in the cam to see if this helps?
