Do Mini-DV Camcorders play Hi-8 ?

Does anyone know if there are any Mini-DV Camcorders that are also capable of playing old Hi-8 tapes ?

I doubt that any exist. They are two totally different standards.

Not only are they different standards, but they are also completely diffferent size tapes. Hi8 are 8mm tape and DV are 4mm tape.
If you want a new digital camcorder that can play the old analogue 8mm tapes (Video8 & Hi8) then your only current option that I am aware of is the top of the range Sony Digital8 camcorder. The lower models will not play the analogue tapes.

Mark.

Thanks, I thought I'd seen a report that said the Sony TRV30 could also playback Hi-8 tapes. It's also interesting that in Technical Specification section for mini-DV camcorders on the Sony website there's a box that says Hi-8 Playback Yes/No.

Do any of them say Yes?

I suspect it's a standard template as the Hi-8 camcorders Technical Specification have a box for iLink (DV) in and out and iLink (MACROMV) in and out.
