microdrive to external drive

Hi guys,
I'm new to camcorders and today I got a new JVC EVERIO
GZ-MC200 which uses a 4GB microdrive. Now the thing is that these
drives will give an hour on the ultra fine setting and cost around £200
each. I was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to copy the
contents of the microdrive directly to another (say 20GB ) external
drive using the cams USB2 connection without the use of a pc?
The idea being to take the external drive with me when staying
away and at the end of each days filming dump the contents so I can use the microdrive the next day. I would even consider using an Archos
type personal video device ( which also has USB2).

thanks Barry

Hi guys,
I think I found my own solution to this and
thought it may help others. It's called the Macally
Syncbox and basically it transfers files via USB without
a pc.
It's here
http://www.macally.com/new/new_syncbox.html

I intend to connect my JVC Everio on one side and a LACIE
250gb external drive on the other and do the transfers overnight
when on holiday in Florida this xmas. Any thoughts?

Have you considered any of these (or similar) devices?

JVC MC200 to IPOD?

Hello all,

I require a means of backing my 4GB microdrive up whilst on holiday. I have read into this a little and found that a 'photo storage unit' like the Vosonic will do the job.
I have also looked at the 'syncbox' ....! The question I have is, will the syncbox work between my camera and may IPOD? I have a 60GB IPOD and always have at least 20GB spare ....

Cheers

HI,
I think you could do this but may need some type of conversion cable.
If I remember the syncbox uses USB (this is a pretty old thread now).
I use a Lacie Porsche gard drive when I did it and it worked great!!!
