Panasonic SD90 £249.99 @ amazon

hi there, I've been after a camcorder since Jan now, the budget stretched as I realised a decent camcorder with decent results in low light was not possible under £200. The sd90 was my choice after reading lots of reviews, but it was still over £379. However it's now on amazon for £249.99, you get the white limited edition olympics 2012 camcorder with leather carry case and £5 comemorative coin. You also get a promotional amazon basics camcorder bag worth £12.39!

I'm sooooooo happy as its so cheap and I know its worth it. I'll be posting as soon as i've tested it to help others.

Thank you for everyone who answered my questions on this forum. I couldn't have come to a decision without them. Advice for anyone wanting to purcahse a camcorder...if you can then take your time, in lots of posts people want a quick model and make so they can quickly purchase but I think if you're investing in it then you need to make sure it's what YOU needm as we're all different.

thanx again

Just in case anyone is unaware, the £5 coin is one of the solid silver ones worth £100... which is a nice surprise

Well when it came out last year it got rave reviews and generally best in its price point, and that was at 500 quid. So for half that price, and factoring in the £100 olympic silver coin there giving away with the limited edition, it was a no brainer for me.
Check or some reviews, :-)

Well, just bought this via Amazon - the white limited edition one. Figured in the end that the colour didn't really matter! Curry's/PC World I note are doing the Gun Metal Grey one at the same price £249 - but - couldn't find any in stock anywhere to pick up locally.

I suppose with the white Olympic one you get the coin worth nearly £100 as well as the carry case, so I guess, factoring in these items, it's a better buy.

Just hope the camera lives up to my expectations.....

Rgds,
Blagton.
I have just bought this very camcorder (from John Lewis, because I wanted the extra year's guarantee) for £300, and was very surprised to see that the coin that comes with it is indeed listed at £99.50 on the Royal Mint site, which then makes this camcorder one hell of a bargain

The 2012 UK Countdown to London 2012 Silver Proof Coin

I am neither a fan of the Olympics nor of the colour white on gadgets, but the colour is not as bad as I had feared, it being somewhat off-white, and as this model is cheaper than the standard grey/black one, it was a no-brainer for me.

I got the white version.
Can anyone recommend me a cheap extended battery for this. Do I have to use a Panasonic battery? I read somewhere you did.

Check on Amazon . . there will be plenty of "Me-Too" vendors and all you can do is take a chance to save maybe 75% of the Pana price.

Do you have a suitable charger . . these batteries need to be charged with care, to maintain full-life and many "budget" ones lack the extra "sensing" connection . . . this is OK if you're out on a job and need to recharge (eg over Lunch-break), but I use the Mfr one 90% of the time..... so buy a spare battery or two. However, I read that many camcorders come with a USB-charger, so you cannot use the camera while the battery is being charged, unless you buy the "proper" charger for £100 (say).

I don't think there is any way to know if a supplier is selling good stuff - but I'm sure the Mfr's don't make their own batteries - so somone is making an equiv. " You Pays yr money . . . "

BTW That "Coin scam" - (wash my mouth!), have you tried selling it? That should establish the price . . . the Royal Mint is proably making a small profit on them, dunno but Camera makers don't often hand out real money.

Good luck.
