Hi,
Does anyone capture and edit on a laptop and if so - or even if not - what sort of spec is it.
For example can you capture adequately to a 4200 rpm HDD....??
I've got a decent desktop and have no probs editing, but this is for my Dad, who wants the portability factor - I just wondered if it would be any good.... it doesn't have to be super-fast.....

The spin speed of a HDD is not directly relevent to video capture. What you do need to know is the seek, write & access times. The best way to find if the HDD is compatable is to download a HDD performance utility from the likes of Pinnacle, Matrox, Canopus etc. This utility should report if the drive is up to the specs required for capture.

I found the HD on my laptop too slow (I use my desktop now). However, one solution for this is to get an external HD.
With my desktop, I use a Maxtor Onetouch external. The speed is 7200rpm, and connects via USB2.0 or firewire. I think you can pick up a 160Gb version for around £100.
