Digital connections HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got a new computer all singing and danceing, but can anyone help me with the correct sequence of connecting a dv camcorder, as sometimes it is recognised/sometimes not, i.e do you connect dv lead before turning on computer or what!!!!!!!!!! driving me mad

OK the most important thing is to connect the cam and power it on before starting the capture/editing software. As long as you do it this way you should have no problems with the cam being picked up.
But to start from the very beginning it should ideally be done as follows:

PC turned off
plug cam via firewire to PC
power on cam
boot PC
start editing software.

Thanks for the reply, still a bit temperamental but at least it works fairly regularly. I might try some different software, using Power Producer and Movie Maker, Ulead?
