analogue inputs to JVC DRV700EK

having problems inputting analogue vision to the above otherwise excellent camcorder. Seems to need very stable syncs, ie VHS tapes which I'm trying to transfer to PC via camcorder firewire "tear" and roll. Sound is OK. Tried a couple of different VCR's and also changed leads. I'm using the JVC supplied minijack to 3 RCA phonos, and a good quality Scart to phono block (Maplin). I'm beginning to think the camcorder's needing to be looked at, but would love any help or advice from fellow users.
