Microphones on a low budget - please advise!

Hey,
I need a bit of advice on sound equipment. I'll be shooting a short medieval themed action/comedy movie this summer primairily using my Panasonic NVDS60 minidv cam. As a lot of the shots will be in outside locations such as woodlands, I was thinking that maybe an external mic would be better than using the cameras one. Having said that my budget is minimal and I mean MINIMAL! Can anybody suggest any equipment I could use for as little cost as possible? I do have a shure SM58 which I use in my band but I wasn't sure if that'd be suitable for this sort of thing....thanks for any advice.
Jamie
