Jvc (dv-700ek) camera to xp/editing issues

NEW GUY
I have had a Jvc Dv-700ek for some time barely used,

Camera driver seems to load - but when I plug the camera in
it asks to load driver again - but then states no better version available? then the camera/hardware still will not opperate?

1)using the usb port on the camera to usb on the pc.
2)using the dv i port out on the camera to the usb on the pc -I get device not recognised, when I do the technical supports properties check on the computer is states the the ports are all ok.

"I here using a firewire connection on the pc resolves some issues - this pc has no plug on the motherboard for fire wire adaptor( resulting in )no 1394 port on back , just soldier dots on the board." This camera worked on my old pc not using the firewire port on the computer -worked through a usb port!

My main concern is that the driver seems not compatable with xp and can not find a driver update on the jvc website - should be straight forward.

-"I know some one on here had similar problems a while back with this camera. I do not want to spend or through money away - this kit cost a lot new, and is only used to do short bits of footage for my website which is very rarely updated."

(whilst I appreciate there are newer better units out, this can do what I require)

This camera was used on my old pc running on windows 2000 or maybe something a bit newer. Now I have borrowed a spare pc because mine crashed - it's running on xp.

The camera was a really pain from new compared with other hardware and did not hook up well with the cables supplied-but I did eventually did get it working.

I think this is the first and last JVC i will ever buy - nothing else has ever been difficult to install and get working, even unbranded gadgets for analog to digital converting!

PLEASE HELP -direct links to solutions would be good, I'm nearly ready to give up,

need to get a bullet cam -cheap to mount on a car for same purpose - any recommendations?

This is a minDV camcorder. I had one in the past and used firewire all the way
Maaybe not what youd like but I think the USB method should be given a miss ..

Firewire to firewire is the ideal way AFAIK. It will solve all the issues

Firewire is actually the standard for all MiniDv camcorders including the HDV newer ones
and thisis not JVC specific. Panasonic also had some that used USB but the drivers would not work on many PCs and later version of Windows ..Certainly not on Macs

Although it may have worked via USB in the past that is more of an exception and not the norm
If your PC is a desktop, it should be easy to get a £10 firewire card and enable firewire on it
If a Laptop , hopefully a PCMCIA or PC Express firewire adaptor should do.

would that cure the problem with the driver for the camera not seeming to work on xp? And does not seem to be an updated driver for the camera suitable for xp?

Does the fire wire work like a scart lead on the television and allow any device to opperate with out a driver in the case of a pc /or having to find the right av channel on a tv.

Via USB yes . For firewire the drivers are built in . I used the JVC ( Had one) on an XP and Vista PC before it died..

It works like a Scart ( to use your analogy)

thank you

Just got to find out the easiest way to go about it as the circuit board on the pc does not seem to have a 1394 plug.

I believe there is something called a pic card or something that will plug in to one of the other connectors on the circuit board and give me a fire wire port.

Thanks for the help so far - dont want to waste any money on any more products that do not intergrate well! (never had a problem with anything before)

looks like pci card

looks like a pci card is the answer to adding a firewire port/cable and software-

I presume there is a specific one for the machine-its an acer f6 running on xp- ANY IDEAS -links-

using pinnicle studios for editing from my Jvc gr-dv700ek which has a dv i out on the camera.

"I know nasty" -but gets me out of a rut, will probably get a mac or build my own at some point.

My old sony was top dog when I got it - would have still done the job if it hadnt have given up.

No any will do although there is a sugestion that those which use the Chipset from TI are most compativle.. I use VIA chipset firewire cards 9 and onboard wih no problem on XXp , Vista and Windows 7

thanks

will look into gettin sorted soon - will post out come.

My old sony - had everything in it - was actually on xp I think not windows 2000 -

I do not know if they put the fire wire bits in at the shop- but it looks like they are part of the mother board and it has a seperate one on a plug in lead that goes to a 1394 plug on the board- this plug is not on the acer board, but I will get/use pci card

The sony also had a port similar size to usb but a bit squarer with triangular corners, I had a lead with camera with that plug in too not fire wire? (not relevant so doesnt matter)

Oh -pinnicle version 8 - I got a load of software with the sony, but for some reason I think one of the discs over writes the others as a newer version/

I might chuck in a bit more ram and maybe get a big exturnal hard drive while I'm at it - will probably have to make do with this pc for a liitle while as to many other expensive interests.

Thanks for the advice - I hope this get's me up and runnning again.

It was a 4-pin firewire which Sony calls i-link
