Reccommend a camcorder?

Heys,

Update on post 6

Hoping to study film and television at uni next year and would like to get some of my own equipment. Looking at getting a camcorder but I've got hardly any knowledge on them. No real budget as such, don't really know what you'd pay for a decent one. A quick browse at prices see them range from £50 to £1k :D
My budget would probably around £200 but can be negotiated.

Any advice much appreciated

Re: Reccommend a camcorder?

For that money you would be looking at a MiniDV tape model.. and maybe second hand
Why not save up even more and see what the course requires you to have , if anything. the camcorder wil end up being only part of the kit list

£50-100 is really not enough to buy a camcorder.. for that money you would get a gadget of limited value unless someone just wanted to give it away

If you did want to avoid a MinDv tape model for up to £200 , I would suggest any SD card model that you get will take video but your expectations would need to be very low and it would not be part of your" equipment" TBH

Re: Recommend a camcorder?

Yeah I said around £200 but the price can be negotiated. As I said, I know little about camcorders so don't know what would be regarded any good. I don't like the sound of a 2nd hand tape one or having very low expectations, so how much would I be looking at spending to get something decent? I'd be using it for my portfolio to hopefully gain entry to uni so I kind of need it asap. I'll email them and try to find out what they use now or what kind of equipment I'd need.

Re: Reccommend a camcorder?

You need to decide whether you are OK with SD quality or could use HD quality. I have a Panasonic HD camcorder which uses an SDHC memory card; the HDC-SD10 and I can thoroughly recommend it. The picture quality is superb and the auto-mechanisms work brilliantly e.g. face recognition, backlighting and so on. Amazon currently have it for £313 - a bargain at that price. You would need to budget for a memory card and possibly a spare battery. I previously had an 8mm camcorder and more recently a MiniDV but I wouldn't go back from a card model now.

hmm got it between Canon FS19 and the Panasonic HDC-SD10. I can't find many reviews for the FS19 but theres quite a few for the HDC-SD10 and they seem fairly positive. Any input on which to go for guys?
