Rendering AVCHD With Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 Takes For Ever!

OK, 90 minutes for a 30 minute clip but it seems like forever.

I'm exporting Pan camcorder 30 mins worth of AVCHD (2ts) clips to a standard DVD (avchd).

I used to use the Panasonic AE Writer software on my 3 year old PC (XP Intel dual core, 2GB RAM) and i'm sure it didn't take that long.

My new spec is Vista 64 bit, Intel quad i7, 8gig ram (doesn't come much better than this!) and now using Corel VideoStudio ProX2.
The rendering time for the same 30minutes worth of clips takes a staggering 90 mins! I'm worse off then I was before!
I assume there is no 'smart rendering process' in Corel and everything is being re-encoded even though there are no fx, tiles , transitions etc, it's just straight joins and a simple DVD menu.

I can also assume that AE doesn't re-encode?

Should I expect faster rendering times with my new spec!

Most definitely, You need better software. period.
I dont think the software is taking advantage of your hardware at all.

Thanks

After all that time rendering the AVCHD quality is v poor, it 'tears' every few seconds. I've tried every setting that's available. It will output to an mpeg file and playback fine but not when exporting to a AVHCD disk.

I should've done a bit more research, the Corel forums and reviews all say that it's poor with AVCHD.

I take it I can send it back to Amazon OK?

Can you recommend a title that utilises 64bit Vista?

I can only think of the Vegas family TBH: might be worth a trial downlaod
I have Roxio Creator 2010 Pro ( not installed) which supports 64 bit but users of the 2009 have not been forthcoming about its AVCHD ability
I understand all Windows 7 able software work with 64 bit

Just before you bin it, you may want to check out this update to the X2 version, if you haven't already got it >

Thanks, i've got the update.

I have actually since found a workaround where you output to an mpeg file using the 'mpeg optimizer' which creates a 'stream copy' (no re-encoding).
I then import this file into the 'DVD import' when creating a 'AVCHD disk'.
When outputting I tick 'Do not Convert mpeg compliant files' so again no more re-encoding.

So the finished disk is exactly the same as the original ts files with no re-encoding.

However I haven't tried the above with adding any FX, transitions, titles etc.
I ve just done simple trims & joins.

So, so far quite pleased with the results so won't bin it just yet!

Re: Rendering AVCHD With Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 Takes For Ever!

Is this stream copy HDV? or a " variant of mpeg2..
Its nice to know the workabout but surprising Corel themselves didint know it existed as it is not boldly known evenon their forums ( which I seldo go now as Im happy with the few Ulead Products I use ;Movie Factory)
For some reason Ver 7 is not being marketed in the UK..

It's output as an mpg, but the template shows it as HDV.

I'll check again tonight.

HDV is mpeg2 ..albeit a different codec from the DVd variety giving it a hi def pixel resolution and Encoding fixed at 25mps.
