editing software

Anyone know of a good program to use to edit my home vids after they have been encoded to mpeg2? I use tmpgenc to encode but i can't find a suitable editing program that will allow me to edit both my mpeg2 and wav files. Most programmes that i have seen let you edit avi files not mpeg2 and the corresponding wav file that's produced, any ideas?

Can't give you any names I'm afraid.

MPEG-2 editing is not simple because of the temporal compression that MPEG employs. Typically only 1 frame every 15 contains full picture information, the other frames only contain info regarding the changes from previous or future frames. this makes it difficult to cut the file anywhere other than on every full frame.

Premiere will edit mpegs but it renders them back first which does take a while. I use premiere 6, not sure which other levels will do it.

If your projects are on DVDs then you need to play them into your PC via analogue capture. They'll then be AVI's again with some slight loss in quality.

MPEG2 editing is difficult but I have done it.

One wrong title and 30 seconds of cack.

Using TMPGENC tools split the MPEG into 3 - rendered BMP into new AVI, TMPGENC encoded AVI then joined.
