Editing Flip Mino clips in Vegas Pro

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the uninspiring title!!

I am using two Flip Mino's to film clips for a video blog I am doing and editing them in Vegas Pro (using the multi camera editing tool).

I am really perplexed by one thing though...

The files on the Flip are saved as HD MP4 files. These file sizes are extremely large, for example 50mb for a 45 second clip.

The problem I have is that when I create my clips in Vegas pro, I then save them as MP4 files and the quality reduces dramatically (as does the relative size of the files). I think what is happening here is that the files is being compressed first by Mino and then again by Vegas, rendering the video quality below acceptable.

I hope this is making sense!!

What is the best way to save the final cut clips in Vegas AND keep the original quality of the clips. I have also tried saving in simple MPG format but this still reduces quality and size of the file and have also tried saving in AVI but that generates files of ridiculously huge size!!

In a nutshell, I want to be able to edit my clips and then save them at identical quality, without further compressing them...

If you are still reading this, any help would be much appreciated!

Many thanks

nick

Re: Editing Flip Mino clips in Vegas Pro

Im not sure what codec Filp minos mp4 files are encoded in but unless you import them into Vegas with a template similar to the native file ( not just the default),
This degradation will occur as extensive re rendering occurs each time you apply an edit

As for rendering out I guess a bit of experimenting, even creating custom output will get you something acceptable
What is less likely is that you will get the exact encoding as you do out of the camera
