High FPS Camera (for my college)

The science department at my college is looking for a new camcorder that can do 300FPS or more if possible

The teacher has seen one that can do up to 1200 (of course with the resolution being reduced) - a Casio is it?

But i said I would ask if anyone knew any better etc.

They are looking for a decent camera that can do 300+ FPS but doesnt break the bank (i dont know the price of the above mentioned one or what they are looking to spend) but any ideas would be great

Thanks

SA6

Re: High FPS Camera (for my college)

The Sanyo HD2000 (or FH1) can do clips at 240 fps with 448x336 resolution and at 600fps with 192x108 resolution. But this is limited to 10 seconds per clip. Prices around 300 quids.

Re: High FPS Camera (for my college)

How does that compare to the one i mentioned in the OP? Price wise and spec wise?

Also isnt that quite a low res to film at?

I will admit to not knowing a massive amount about camcorders or the market but all help is greatly accepted on behalf of my teacher and myself

Re: High FPS Camera (for my college)

Owners or other camcorders may want to give their inputs; I doubt if any can do better at this price but I could be wrong. Anyway, the HD2000 shoots at 1920x1080, 60fps at the highest resolution so the high speed recording is a compromise. Alternatively is to shoot at a higher resolution and use an editing software to render at slow-motion but not sure if the result is the same.

I have posted some HD clips in Vimeo, here's one example.

Have not posted any at slow mo but it does work. I have seen some Sanyo slow mo clips in Youtube though.

Re: High FPS Camera (for my college)

Those that have the Sanyo HD2000, what format does it record in please?

I passed the details of the HD2000 onto my teacher today who was very grateful for the help, so please keep any suggestions coming

Thumbs up Re: High FPS Camera (for my college)

Hi bro...

checkout the Sanyo HD1010 its on offer at camerabox

it should do 300fps - much cheaper than the HD2000

Also then the Casio camcorder range have those specs but hey, too overpriced...

Stick with the HD1010 or HD2000

I own the HD1000, and its beautiful... but Anit got the 300fps... sorry.

Take care, Ash...

The format used is MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 and the file is just a single .mp4 file for each video clip. Thus it is hassle-free moving clips around.
