Editing with Apple Imovie in Imac24

Hi there.
Bought a Sony handycam DCR SR35 and couldn't send the pictures from its HDD to my IMac. Only the stills were sent. The problem is that the encoding in this camera doesn't fit with Apple operating system.
Since I'm in general terms satisfied with Sony systems I'm wondering to buy the HDR-CX11 (12 in USA) to jump to HD.
Does anybody know if it works well in Mac-OS Snow Leopard System and with the Ilife suite?

Thanks a lot from Barcelona (Catalonia)

Hi
The Sony HDR-CX11, will work fine on your imac, imovie will import the AVCHD files, and you will be able to edit your films. I use a Sony PMW EX1 camcorder and edit with imovie, take a look at a short film I have posted on Vimeo. 1940's Weekend at RAF Upwood 2009 on Vimeo

Thanks Michael. Let me say your pictures and editing are amazing. I'd worked in the tvnews business some time ago and I remember carrying those Betacam SP (7 kg.or so), getting some drops on the tape... And when I see your film... Well, awesome! Congratulations.

Very polished,
Proficient video work and clean editing..no gimmicks
I enjoyed viewing it
Did you record Sir Winston Churchills wartime speech separately and add it on?
Also what didiyou ourput to Vimeo.. Quality is very good
I thought the XDCAM support was
Vegas/ FCP only
Saying that , these are Higher bitrate long GOP high def mpeg2 files, not AVCHD
I know some Sony SD files dont gel with the macs but is it the lack of drivers or codec incompatibility

Re: Editing with Apple Imovie in Imac24

Thanks for your comments.

Sir Winston Churchill's speech came from iTunes.
Output to Vimeo is restricted by their protocols. Compression is the key, and I use H.264. I export my edit using quicktime movie at 5000 kbits/sec and multipass the encoding at it's best setting.
XDCAM is supported by Vagas & FCP (Which I use also) however when using XDCAM transfer software, the files are imported in and saved as .mov files, which you can bring into imovie and edit with ease.
