Help with new Panasonic SD200 please

I have just taken delivery of my new Panasonic SD200. Normally, I quite enjoy the process of getting to know how to use new kit over the first few weeks, but I am going on holiday on Saturday, so need to master this a bit quicker.

I tried some test footage indoors last night, and it was awful - a lot of noise and the camera struggled to focus on anything. This was in a very brightly lit room as well, so I dread to think what it would be like in truly low light.

I left it in iA mode for this test. As I understand it from the manual, iA will automatically select the best mode for the shooting conditions. It didn't seem to work here. Am I best off going to manual settings for this?

My previous camcorder was a Sony CX6. It wasn't great indoors, but was a lot better than this, and that was without using any manual settings.
