Help needed with SD/SDHC card purchase please ?

Hi,

I have today took the plunge into the world of hd camcorders and purchased a Panasonic HDC-SD10. This is my first camcorder and I was looking into a few models but price swung it for me and when I saw it in Argos for £299 + £10 voucher back so effective £289 ! A good deal I think.

My question is with regards to SD or SDHC cards and what are the best type to get ?

Would I be best with Class 4, or 6 and is this just the speed you can read back from them at ?

I have read many threads on here regarding corrupt cards from ebay, fake cards etc so are there any to avoid ?

Any help on where to get from a reliable source at a decent price would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for what seem like basic questions but I am only used to Sony MS cards.

Thanks

That is a good price for that camera. I have just purchased an SD200, but might consider the SD10 instead at that price.

Panasonic recommend class 4 cards for their camcorders, but there have been some reports of 'choppy' playback when these are used. I always buy class 6, because I also have a TZ7 which requires this speed. For the price difference, it is probably worth getting class 6 cards, in my opinion.

I have had good experience with cards from Kingston, Transcend and Integral. I have purchased from 7dayshop and Mymemory. Current prices seem to be around £28 for a 16Gb card and £13 for an 8Gb one.

Good luck with the new camcorder.

Hi, I am in the same predicament now. New SD10 and just trying to decide whether to go Class 4 or Class 6 for card (although am going to get a free Panny 32Gb card with their Christmas promotion) but not sure when that will arrive.

How have you got on with the PNY card - any problems with the Class 4 speed?

Thanks

Rob
