8mm & super8 - what's the difference ?

Whats the difference between 8mm and Super8 film ?

Will a projector like Model 256 Bell & Howell handle both types of film

There are three differences; Standard 8 has bigger sprocket holes than Super 8. Super 8 uses more of the celluloid for the picture area. Standard 8 runs at 16 frames per second, and Super 8 runs at 18 fps. Finally, the hole in the middle of the film spool is bigger on Super 8 than Standard 8. Many projectors are 'dual 8', I don't know about that particular model but there will be a lever of some description to change from one to the other and spool adapters if it is.

Did a search, there's a B & H 256 for sale on ebay.com and it looks like that model is Standard 8 only. However, there are plenty of Super 8 projectors about. Make sure the bulb works as they are becoming difficult to find.
