Unhappy sony handycam DCR-DVD106E

Im looking for help regarding the file type that is recorded on the mini dvd.Instead of constantly buying mini dvds i need a program that can convert it to a file type i can burn with nero etc onto a standard dvd so i can just use rewritable mini dvds and save money by just standard dvds any help would be appreciated

Re: sony handycam DCR-DVD106E

The file type on a miniDVD is exactly the same as that on a standard sized DVD - MPEG-2.
With the likes of Nero you can just put the miniDVD into your PC's DVD drive and get the software to copy the disc and burn to a full sized DVD.

Mark.

Re: sony handycam DCR-DVD106E

As Mark said, disc cloning software (Nero etc) doesn't care what the files are or contain, it will just copy your MiniDVD to a cheaper normal-sized DVD.
If your MiniDVD RW plays in your domestic DVD player, so should the copy.

Video DVDs do contain MPEG2 video, but in a folder/file structure that domestic DVD players understand, not nice individual .mpg files that you would expect to see on a PC.

If you want to extract the video from the MiniDVD, edit it in a PC, then write it to normal-sized DVDR, you will use software to 1. Rip the video, creating .mpg files, 2. Edit the .mpg files, 3. Author a DVD-Video (Vob-file structure) from those files.

VOB files are mpeg2,
VOB ( Video object) is the way they are "Packaged" so that normal DVD players can understand them. If you burnt a data disc with mpeg2 files, they would play on the PC but not a DVD player, A DVD video would play in either

If you get Software like Ulead DVD Movie Factory, and want to Create a Normal sized DVD, just pop in your miniDVDs in one after another , it will create a DVD video
Similarly you could do this by just copying the said vob files unto your HDD if you chose not to rename them as *.mpg
Your (mini) DVDs do not need ripping as this only applies to copy protected DVDs . You can simply pop itinto the DVD drive and copy the content to the PC's HDD
