Canon Dw-100 burner

Concerning the Canon Dw-100 dvd burner,
does anyone know if can burn from avchd footage to standard definition ie dum it down for playback on a regular dvd player?

Also if the high definition footage can be played on the majority of emerging ' cheaper ' blue ray players.
