Old Camcorder AV connection - anyone know what it is?

Hi there - I have an old Hitachi VM-1200e VHS Camcorder from the 80s. I'd love to use the video out on it, but it's a connection I'm unfamiliar with. I'm wondering if anyone knows what it is, and if it's a standard sort of cable (or a proprietary Hitachi one) and even where i might be able to find one!

The connection is listed on the side of the camera as AV OUT, is a round connector with 9 pins and three locator lugs. It looks a similar size to a S-VIDEO connection, but with 9 pins arranged in a circle.

Thanks!

Ian

My JVC S-VHS camcorder has two 9-pin type connections (AV in and AV out).
I believe between different makes these were configured differently; you could not use say a JVC cable with a Hitachi camcorder.
The AV out cable should have been supplied, without it the camcorder couldn't have been connected to a TV for playback/VCR for editing.

I bought the extra cables for the AV input (RCA to 9-pin, S-video to 9-pin/9-pin through for the audio), these weren't cheap - £20+ each (1989).

Someone must have one kicking about though.
Check there aren't any hidden sockets under flaps, the Hitachi VM-2700 (only VHS model I could find an online manual for) has RCA outputs there, and the viewfinder connects via a 9-pin.

Ian,

If you get stuck and can't find the original or discover that the original is expensive RS components do an unterminated cable with a 9 pin mini din plug for £6.29, dunno if you can use a soldering iron if you can it will be a simple case of identifying video out, audio out and ground(signal return) and soldering some video and audio phono connectors on. Let me know if you need a hand making the cable.

Carl
