Sony hvr-a1e software problem

Hi
I am consdiering buying the Sony HVR A1e but it has a firmware problem that came about after the software was updated, does anyone know if it is going to be possible to fix this either myself or by sending in to the factory? Or do you think buying a camera like this is too much of a gamble?
