Question Canon MV730i

My camcorder has started displaying broad lines across the screen and on the recordings I take from the camera? The lines are equal to the picture which shows, so I get 4mm picture, 4mm grey line, 4mm picture etc.

Anyone any ideas what this is about? I tried 2 tapes, one recorded 3 years ago and previously viewed perfectly and even that is showing the same problem.

Would cleaning the heads work? and if so, what do I clean them with, do they do mini cleaning tapes like they do VHS ones? or is it a return to the makers / repairers?
