I have just been to our local camera shop to get some hands-on tests of ca mcorders. My main use will be trains of all shapes and sizes from standard gauge full size down to 9mm gauge models. Other uses will no doubt be filming my new granddaughter and holidays. I have a Fujifilm 2800Zoom digital camera, old but still produces good pictures, but the limited video has restricted some of my photography. Point-and-shoot is all I really need and the Panasonic seemed about right but reviews say the video quality is poor. True or not?

True.
The Panasonic sdr H80 has the worst Picture I have ever seen. Basically if your blind, or not fond of seeing your relatives this is the camera for you.
You would be better of with the Sony, failing that take sketches they'l still be better than the sdr.
