Camcorder sports filming advice

I'm looking to buy a camcorder for filming parkour, I want atleast 720p and the ability to film in a higher fps than 30. I'm getting a council grant so my budget is around £250-£350.

I've been reading reviews online and looking at prices however I have no idea what type of camera would be recommended for filming this type of sport.

Any advice appreciated :D

Re: Camcorder sports filming advice

I've done my fair share of filming parkour over the years, and whilst I'm not overly familiar with specific camcorder models around that price range, I can make some suggestions about things to look for in a camera. I'd say that the ability to use high shutter speeds is probably more important than actual frame rate. I've found that 25 or 30 FPS works fine for most things. Also, make sure you buy a camcorder which can take a wide angle lens. When you're shooting parkour in confined spaces, a wide angle lens allows you to fit more into the picture. This is useful in situations where you just can't get far enough back from the action to fit everything in frame with the standard lens. Try to resist to urge to go for a fish eye lens like so many people seem to. It's annoying to watch for prolongued periods, and gives a false sense of perspective.

I hope that helps.

Thanks.
I have to see if my old camcorder has the ability to fit a wide angled lens.

As the previous poster said, it's not the frame rate that counts for capturing fast moving subjects but shutter speed, the drawback of a high shutter speed is you need good light, it should be taken into account that a wide angle lens can reduce the amount of light hitting the cams sensors.
