Samsung HMX-R10 settings

Hi all,

I've just purchased the above camera and wondered if anyone had any tips on the best format to record/edit in. The camera seems really good and great value for the price. I've done a few test movies at different formats and things look good on my tv. I've only recorded a few things tonight therefore the light isn't great and am expecting even better things once I try it out in daylight.

Basically I have a 1080p plasma, so would ideally like to shoot stuff at this resolution. I will be editing on a mac using Final Cut Studio 2. When I playback the movies on my mac through Quicktime they seem to drop frames at 1080p, 1080i and even 720p. SD footage seems fine though. I am thinking that it's possibly the speed of my mac internal hard drive although I'm on a 2 year old Intel iMac so the spec should be good enough to handle this. Things seem better and less jumpy played via my 360 into the plasma, but not as mind blowing as I was expecting. Maybe it's my high expectations or the fact that the test movies have been recorded in relatively low light. I'll do some more tests tomorrow in the daylight.

Am off on holiday soon and want to make sure I record things on the best format for coming back and editing then viewing on my tv. Had originally thought it would be 1080p, but now I'm not too sure. For those not familiar with the camera, it shoots in 1080i50, 1080p,720p, or standard def. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Don't have the camera but I am very interested in getting it some time...do not use 1080/25p, use 1080/50i for smooth video, 25p gives film-like juddery motion, best used for artistic purposes (unless of course this is your intention)...for natural-looking video 1080i is THE way to go...do not compromise by using 720/50p either, unless absolutely necessary...
