Red face Converting Hi-8 tapes to DVD

Hi!

I have a lot of HI8 tapes (8mm) from my old camcorder which I want to convert to DVD. Sadly I no longer have the camera as we recently threw it out in a house move.

I really need a professional company that will take my tapes and put them on dvd for me. I have found this site http://www.1scan.co.uk/Hi8toDVD.htm advertising the service for £5 a tape but not sure wether to trust it or not.

Any advice? Anyone used a place they can recommend?

Thanks

Re: Converting Hi-8 tapes to DVD

The link to search Hi-8 contains many posts on threads/Posts that may well have touched on this problem

Essentially you do need a machine to play Hi-8 tapes and preferably recorded at SP
If you still had your camcorder, the easiest thing would be to record to DVD using a Setop DVD recorder in the comfort of your own home
Using a PC is a tad trickier

However as you do not have one, you could borrow one, get one for peanuts at say Cash converters or ebay
or
Get a Digital 8 model.. many ( but not all) of which can play Hi8 tapes and convert them to digital then allowing import to PC or Settop DVD player using Firewire

As for the company you linked, maybe someone here can advise you. I ve never used or heard of them
If you think the amount is affordable.. they might be all you need

Re: Converting Hi-8 tapes to DVD

Hi Senu

been through those links, sadly not all that usefull and much the same as my searches came up with.

We're really not into buying a camera and putting out time and effort into it, at £5(ish) a tape, its just not worth our time.

So original question still stands, can anyone recommend a company?

Re: Converting Hi-8 tapes to DVD

Oh well it was worth a punt
Maybe someone will suggest a company but I imagine many folk who come on here would rather do it themselves.. It isnt that hard and need not be done in a rush

As an aside I actually have 2 camcorders which can play Hi8 and a DVD recorder as well as PC capture devices . I would really find £5 a tape a bit much if I had a large no of tapes but YMMV
