Sony HDR-HC3E and DVD recorder HXD870

Need help guys as totally fed up with trying to get the best quality content from the HC3E to DVD.

I have tried Vegas 9.0 on computer and can't get good quality. Best I can get is with Vista movie maker where it says its HD camcorder but images are jerky.

Purchase Sony 870 recorder and tried direct firewire dubbing but poor quality. Tried setting HDV-DV and every other setting with no luck.

Only thing left is HDMI to HDMI but need a lead.

Has anyone else got this hardware and getting good results ?

You cant cpture from the hdmi without a special adaptor it is hassle and not worth going that way with your model,if you are trying to make standard dvds
you will lose a lot of quality from your hd cam, avchd discs are hd quality and simple editing programns like pinnacle 12 ultimate will make them 35m on a single layer disc or there is the blu ray option but you need a bd burner, regarding the jerkiness if you are capturing via firewire in hd i can not explain the jerkyness it must be pc software related.
If it plays fine to a tv via hdmi and component but jerky when into your dvd recorder with the hdv dv set to on there could be a problem with the firewire socket or the firewire output, an easy test would be to connect the dvd recorder via standard dv and see how it plays.

I have the Sony HDR-HC3E and I have just recently started editing HD having had some experience of editing SD, but regard myself as a novice.
I have Pinnacle Studio12 Plus and I capture from the camcorder using firewire. After editing I burn either standard definition DVDs or AVCHD DVDs in HD quality on standard DVDs which are playable on BD players. I have experienced no problems whatsoever and the quality of the AVCHD discs is stunning, being just perceptibly lower than the original quality obtained by connecting my camcorder directly to my 1080p Panasonic plasma TV via HDMI.
I hope that this reassures you that excellent results can be obtained with the HC3E.

Re: Sony HDR-HC3E and DVD recorder HXD870

I have the Sony HC3 and the Sony 870 DVD Recorder.

You can set the HC3 to output DV-Video and connect it to the DVD recorder via a 4pin to 4 pin firewire.

Copied 100 tapes to DVD this way. 1hour tape, 1 hour record mode. Results are excellent but only SD quality of course.

This clips shows HDV rendered using Sony Vegas to an M2TS file at 15Kbps for the video. Looks even better when played via my WDTV HD box. Doesn't play jumpy at all. These boxes are £68 at Amazon just now and you cannot get a better way to show your Sony HC3 footage!

Have a think about what may be happening ,
Vegas is not known for degrading quality and firewire transfer should assure that the files on tape and on the PC are identical

Re: Sony HDR-HC3E and DVD recorder HXD870

Did say test the non firewire outputs first and if they are fine but the cam wont capture via firewire to the dvd recorder with the hdv dv setting on the problem is with its firewire output somwhere along the the line.same capturing to pc with the hdv dvd setting off.

Re: Sony HDR-HC3E and DVD recorder HXD870

Thanks guys - haven't a lot of time at moment but when I do I will look into suggestions.

Installed movie maker last night and tried using that. Seems ok to capture HD and put onto DVD.

Will movie maker HD work with writeable Blu Ray to create 1080 movies?

Not sure ( I assume you mean Windows Movie maker which should not need installing as such as it is part of Windows)
I wouldn't rely too much on Movie Maker for such extended capabilities TBH unless you know something I do not
