Which Cam for recording what you see in your headlights

Hi everyone

I'm a total amateur at any kind of camera work but my brother has got me going on something that interests me - but probably won't interest many of you to be honest.

If you are easily upset PUH-LEASE don't click to start the clip in this link - it's only posted to show exactly the problem we need to solve: For anyone not wanting to view the clip, the open page shows a close hedge lit up by the headlights of a vehicle. We want to be able to record this in better quality and at much greater distance.

We had to limit recording anything beyond 40 yards or so away - and need to record up to at least 100 yards and further if possible.

The Camera used was an SDR-S26 which has terrific zoom for long range day use but as you see - or don't see really - we could not record most of what occurred at night. Low light setting was used with a bright screen setting.

We need to be able to stop faffing about losing time with the zoom - and record greater distances perhaps with a wider field of view.

And a bonus would be to record it to SD card in a format that windows movie maker would recognise.

Any ideas chaps?

If I'm not allowed to use direct links would the mods link it in the prefered format before slapping my wrist please? Thanks in advance, Dave.
